OPERATION LIFESAVER So far in 1999, we have made thirty-seven presentations with many elementary school age groups getting a train ride as well as the presentation to help make our safety message stick in the minds of the future leaders of our area. Computer System/Communications Arkansas Missouri Railroad spent $65,000 on upgrading the computer system. We currently have twenty-two network users; however, with this upgrade, we now have the capability to have seventy users. All the hardware is new and Y2k compatible. We also have recently purchased a new accounting package that meets the Y2k problem. The existing IRCS software was recently upgraded by RMI. We can currently run EDI, Car Hire, and Train II. One stand alone computer station is for our scale reader that Arkansas Missouri Railroad has set up. We also have an AEI reader in Monett, MO, that links up to our system in Springdale, Arkansas. There is a disaster recovery plan in place in case of a severe system crash due to unforeseen forces. Our old system has been modified and updated to mirror the new system, and can be functional within three hours. Fireproof safes, which are set to run nightly, store current data information from backup tapes. Hard drives are swapped once a week to keep all data current then they are stored at an off-site location. We feel the changes that have been made have put Arkansas Missouri Railroad ahead of most short lines and will enable us to grow for years to come.
