FREIGHT CAR FLEET
The ever-expanding car fleet of the Arkansas Missouri Railroad is growing more diverse as is our customer base in Northwest Arkansas.

In the past three years, our total car fleet has gone from 250 to over 850 cars today. New rail cars added in the recent years include covered hoppers for grain and feed supplement service, tank cars for liquid carbon dioxide service to the chicken processing industry, and all sizes and types of box cars for our customers use.

The boxcars range between 70 and 100 tons of either 50 or 60-foot cars to 89-foot auto part boxes and everything in between. In the years 1998 and 1999, there were one hundred reconditioned boxcars released from our car shops at Fort Smith, AR and Springdale, AR.

Throughout the summer of 2001, we added thirty-five Pullman built 4750 covered hoppers increasing the total number of covered hoppers available to fifty-three. The cars received a fresh coat of paint along with an interior cleaning.

Our fleet also includes open top hoppers for aggregate service, bulkhead flats and new (4-99) center-beam flats for our lumber trans-loading operations in addition to our gondola and refrigerator cars. More purchases of new and reconditioned cars are on hand to further enhance service to our current and future customers.
