The Weekend Railfan/Rare Mileage Trip a BIG Success!
This was the most enjoyed of the Railfan specials to date. The passengers got a look at parts of the railroad rarely seen by the casual railfan, including the mountainous area around Pea Ridge with the Brightwater Bridge and plenty of fall color. They also got a look at our new yard facilities at Monett, Missouri. Three photo runs were in the trip at Seligman, Mo., Purdy, Mo. and Avoca, AR which were all enjoyed by the passengers. As a unadvertised special on the way back from Monett to Springdale, a side trip on the entire length of our Bentonville Branch was made, the first passenger train on that line since World War 2! Keep checking our web pages for future trip announcements!
Passenger Train to run again in 1999!
During a campaign whistle stop for Arkansas Governer Mike Huckabee it was officially announced that the popular excursion service to Van Buren, AR with its associated trips from Van Buren to Winslow will again roll for a 1999 season. We at the A&M are proud to continue our service to our communities on our line, and the excursion is just part of our efforts to be of service to our communities. The excursion train is a major source of tourist revenue to the Historic Downtown of Van Buren and we are proud to continue this effort. Other community projects of the A&M are Operation Lifesaver presentations as well as school field trips and train rides for the local area. Call us at 501/751-8600 for details of how we can offer you Operation Lifesaver safety presentations for your group.
